Cows can do very high damage as well, but from my experience they are usually fine. You probably want to avoid velociraptors, stench cows and elks tho, as these are just too powerful for your average game. I'd recommend designing the list around what their character is themed around. My way of choosing the animals to speed up play, but not make it too powerful is as follows:īefore you or one of your players plans on casting this spell, come up with a small list of (realistically) cr 1/4 beasts, 6 or 8 works best, then when your player casts the spell, roll to see what they get.įor example for a campaign I'm currently in my table: This is a mistake in general, and just opens a massive can of worms, but if it works at your table, keep doing what you are doing. RAW: The dm chooses the animals, but its a common house rule to let players choose. You get to choose how many creatures you summon and what their cr is, from the following options:ĭue to action economy, and no scaling modifiers like in other games, the 8 creature option choosing 1/4 cr is the best in 99% of cases. I will be recommending rulings that are not mentioned in the rules anywhere (and will have to therefore be agree on by your dm before you use them), but they all are really reasonable, and mostly on the dms side.Ĭonjure Animals. This is a guide for dms and players on how to do this spell right and not destroy your games. One of the most frequently argued about spells, and one that causes a lot of controversy, but is one of the best spells on the ranger and druid lists is Conjure Animals. My favourite classes are druid, wizard and ranger, and I feel like 2 of those get a lot of hate for no good reason.
